Aging and care
Esperança en Línia aims to promote emotional well-being through active listening within the framework of a more supportive and resilient society. These principles must be present throughout people's lives. Also during old age, in situations of dependency or when we dedicate time - with or without pay - to caring for others.
In the city of Barcelona alone, more than 355,000 people they care for someone in their family informally and intensively, without remuneration, dedicating an average of 14.6 hours a dayTherefore, many are forced to abandon their jobs but also their personal relationships and hobbies. Of these, some 30,000 people do it for a fee, but they are informal and precarious jobs, often carried out by women in irregular situations, according to data from theBarcelona City Council.
At Esperança en Línia we know that caregivers, whether they do so professionally or through a family or emotional bond with the person in a situation of dependency, can experience complications in their physical and mental health derived from their activity. Many people, mostly women, they suffer burnout, a type of emotional exhaustion that results in insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, stress or depressive symptoms. They may even develop negative feelings for the person they are caring for, also putting their well-being at risk.
For all this, and because they fulfill such a task essential as invisible and little recognized, to Hope Online A specific device has been launched where all these people can find emotional support and information about resources that can help them with both their health and their personal well-being.
