The Esperança Online Campus is born

This Thursday, October 9, as part of the activities for International Mental Health Day, our organization is launching the Campus Esperança Online, a training platform online which we make available not only to our volunteers but to any person who carries out a voluntary action within the framework of suicide prevention, grief support and emotional support in general, to any entity in the Spanish state. The project has been possible thanks to the funding of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030.

The new campus is another step that we take from Esperança en Línia in supporting all volunteers who carry out emotional support tasks and a new proof of our confidence in the ability of volunteers to respond to the discomforts of today's society, such as unwanted loneliness or suicidal behaviors. After more than half a century of emotional support work, we know that training not only gives the volunteer the most appropriate tools to care for others, but also helps them to have more confidence when doing so and develop skills that can serve them in their personal and professional development. The topics developed in this first module published on the Campus are based on the demands and needs expressed by volunteers in focus groups that were carried out at the beginning of the year.

Training as a link between entities

The aim of the new platform goes beyond offering training, but is the visible face of a more ambitious solidarity project: the creation and development of links between the dozens of entities that offer emotional support and suicide prevention throughout Spain. Working together, the different associations and foundations that work within the framework of emotional health can exchange knowledge and good practices, share concerns and find solutions together, thus improving their social impact. And this is the ultimate objective of the platform: to foster a support network for all volunteers dedicated to the integral emotional well-being of the person.

The Campus It starts with a module with five different themes:

  • Active listening
  • Psychological first aid
  • Suicide prevention
  • Accompaniment in mourning
  • Volunteer care

This content completely covers the most general aspects of emotional support. Our main tool, which is active listening; the different situations in which the volunteer may find himself, risk of suicide, grief or other emotional problems; as well as a module dedicated to the care of volunteers, because in order to be able to help others you need to be well with yourself. The catalog will be expanded during the coming year and other webinars will be added that, like this content, will be open to all volunteers from Spanish entities dedicated to emotional support.

The presentation will take place this Thursday, October 9 at 10am in the Equitat room of the Barcelona Social Hub.
